Well, here I go. Jumping headlong into the Blogging foray.
I have been, for more years than I want to broadcast here, a photographer by trade, and, as such, I’m really a visual person. I generally say what I want through my pictures. What can I say that can’t be said with just my images? Right? You see, words were never my strong point. But here I am… Blogging… Which involves… Words.
For me, a Blog is a giant leap into this scary world called words. Don’t get me wrong. I love words. Love, love, love them. Reading them, that is. I love when something is written so well that it creates an entire world of imagery in my mind. I really fancy myself as a writer and often thought I could be one, if I really worked at it. I know lots of words and I’m sure I have something to say. I’m always so impressed when words just pour eloquently out of someone’s mouth to say what’s on their mind. It’s just that words tend to hitch up somewhere between my head and my mouth and more often than not result in some kind of faux pas or unintended pun. Somewhat embarrassing actually. So I guess blogging is a kind of buffer, really, since I get to review what’s coming out before it ever arrives here for you to read, whomever you are.
So this first blog is just to get my feet wet, I suppose, and point me in the right direction. Get me started. It’s short and sweet, I hope. And though it will probably take you only a couple of minutes to have read, trust me, it took a good part of my day to complete.
Many of my photographer friends participate in daily/weekly photo challenges they blog about, and they seem practically a requirement for any professional’s website or facebook pages these days. Well, I’m going to make it “easy” on myself and do a once-a-month photo challenge. That should give me enough time to get those words rattling around up there in my head, down through my fingers and into some kind of coherent Blog to go with my images.
My photo challenge for January was to capture something that tells us that it actually IS January, even in Southern California. These three photos are of the January blooms in my yard. Camelias, shockingly pink and purest of white. And along with my Camelias comes my Lavender bush which I was quite worried might not bloom again having suffered an insidiously hot summer. As you can see, the bees seem quite happy about it, too!
So there you have it. My January Blog. Hope it entertained. Feel free to leave me comments. 😉
