In just a few days it will be Mardi Gras in New Orleans. Since I grew up in the Big Easy, Mardi Gras is deeply embedded in my consciousness and around this time of year I have to say I start to feel a little homesick. It’s not quite the Girls Gone Wild kind of spectacle people think of these days, though a spectacle it truly is. Anyone who has not experienced this fabulous festivity should take any opportunity given to do so.
Well, it does rain a lot in New Orleans, even during Mardi Gras season. I’ve marched in my share of parades through the French Quarter and Garden District in the rain, ’cause nothin’ stops the party. But here in L.A. where I live now, people barely know what real rain looks like. Well, today, the people of Los Angeles and parts nearby, got to experience a virtual torrent of rain, complete with thunder. And rain creates a wonderful opportunity to shoot since water reflects so beautifully.
My first shot, above, was through the window with sheets of water dripping on it and what do you know, the colors of the garden outside just happen to be the purple, green and gold of Mardi Gras!
And then I couldn’t resist the wonderful reflection of the trees on my rain soaked deck. So there you go, proof positive — It really does rain in L.A.!
